Teaching Sexual Diversity Ban Before Senate Committee
Last month, the House K-12 Sucommittee sent HB 0821 by Campfield, along with several other curriculum related bills, to the State Board of Education for review. The Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition supported that decision. Instead of waiting for the Board of Education to review the matter and return with its report next March as requested by the House, Dewayne Bunch, the sponsor of the companion bill in the Senate, SB 1250, has put that bill On Notice this week in the Senate Education Committee. Please contact members of the Education Committee and encourage them to support the House action and send this bill to the Board of Education. The members of the Senate Education Committee are:
Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville), Chair
Reginald Tate (D-Memphis), Vice-Chair
Andy Berke (D-Chattanooga), Secretary
Charlotte Burks (D-Monterey)
Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City)

One of the major bills that TTPC has proposed this year is one that would add “gender identity or expression” to Tennessee’s hate crimes sentencing enhancement statute.
